Browser Configuration for Cookie Control

IE 6 defaults to cookie rejection, so with IE 6, do this:

Go to:

Tools/Internet Options

Click on the “Privacy” Tab.

Click on the “Advanced” button in the Settings area.

Check the following boxes:

“Override automatic cookie handling”

“Prompt” in First-party Cookies

“Prompt” in Third-party Cookies

“Always allow session cookies”

—then “OK’ and “OK.”

With these settings, a dialogue box will pop up each time a web site attempts to write a Cookie.  You can choose to accept or reject the cookie, either just that cookie or all cookies from that site.  This is a very convenient way to permit the cookies you want, & forbid those you don’t.

If at some point you want to change your acceptance or rejection of a site’s cookies, do this:

Tools/Internet Options

Click on the “Privacy” Tab.

In the Web Sites area, click on the “Edit” button.  You can then double-click on a web site in the lower “Managed Web sites” window, and change its status using the “Block” or “Allow” buttons.  You can manually add a web site (leave off the www, just use the domain name) in the upper window, and set it to be Blocked or Allowed.

This procedure will configure your browser to give you complete control over cookies.
