Fulton Armory's Exclusive M14 Handguard (below)
My question is, why did you choose this plastic-type handguard instead of the GI? My concerns are that the handguard may melt at higher temperatures. I have never seen a plastic-type handguard. Any information you can give me on this type of handguard would be appreciated.
New GI handguards are non-existent, and have been for at least 10+ years. The only "new" handguards available for at least the past 10 years have been the Springfield, Inc. repro handguards that always crack at the rear (by the way, the GI handguards often cracked there as well). I could offer a substandard "new" SAI handguard, or, a GI nasty looking/repainted/cracking/flaking cover-up. So, what to do?
I made my own handguard!
My handguards are superior to SAI's and even the original GI handguards, if I may be so bold. Why?
First, they cannot crack. Try it!
Second, they are very heat resistant. They are not just "any" plastic, they are made from a hi temp polymer with fiberglass strands. I tested the handguards with this material by snapping one on a barrel, and then taking a propane torch to the barrel's chamber. After a many minutes, the handguard started to smoke a little, but only when the barrel got extremely hot did the "plastic" begin to melt. Keep in mind a GI fiberglass handguard would begin to burn under this abuse.
Third, our handguards are beautiful!
Lastly, they are available.
I have sold thousands and have never heard one iota about a problem.
