We’ve been building M14 receivers for a long time. Fulton Armory began producing cast receivers around 2003, and that process has served us well for more than two decades. But manufacturing changes, and over the last several years we’ve been working on what comes next.

The result is our new M14 billet receiver.

Rather than starting with a casting or forging, the new receiver starts as a solid block of 8620 steel. It goes into the machining cell as a block and comes out as a fully machined M14 receiver. Every surface is machined and controlled as part of that process.

For years, producing an M14 receiver this way simply didn’t make sense from a cost standpoint. That has changed. Billet manufacturing has become competitive enough with casting that we reached a point where making the transition was practical.

And after more than 20 years of experience building M14 receivers, we knew exactly what we wanted from the new one.

A New Receiver Without Reinventing the M14

One of our priorities was straightforward: changing how we manufacture the receiver shouldn’t mean changing everything that works with it.

The new billet receiver remains compatible with USGI parts and USGI-spec components from other manufacturers. The same applies to the accessories, modifications and barrel options M14 owners are already familiar with.

We weren’t interested in creating a proprietary version of the M14 that requires an entirely new group of components. The billet receiver is an evolution of the receivers we’ve been producing for years, not a departure from the platform.

Why Billet?

There are cast M14 receivers on the market and there are forged receivers. Our approach with this project was to machine the receiver from billet.

That gives us a high degree of control over the machining process, but the way we produce them is just as important. These receivers will be manufactured in small runs of approximately 25 at a time.

We aren’t trying to turn them out in massive batches. Keeping production runs small gives us the opportunity to closely monitor the receivers, their tolerances and overall quality throughout the manufacturing process.

For us, that’s one of the biggest advantages of bringing this receiver into production this way.

Why We Aren’t Selling Stripped Receivers

We know this will probably be one of the first questions we get.

At launch, the billet M14 receiver will not be sold as a standalone stripped receiver.

Instead, it will be available as part of Fulton Armory-built rifles and barreled actions. We made that decision deliberately because we want to maintain control over the assembly of the receiver, bolt and barrel and, ultimately, the integrity of the finished product.

Customers will be able to get the new receiver through:

• Complete Fulton Armory M14 rifles
• Complete barreled actions
• Stripped barreled actions using a Criterion barrel and Fulton Armory forged bolt
• Receiver replacement work performed by our gunsmithing department

For customers who want to replace an existing receiver, our gunsmithing department will also be able to handle the work. You can purchase the appropriate barrel and bolt from us, or send compatible components to Fulton Armory, and we’ll handle the barreling and assembly process here.

It adds an extra step compared with simply purchasing a stripped receiver, but it also means we know how the major components were fitted when that receiver leaves our shop.

Continuing to Support the M14

The M14 has been around for a long time, and supporting these rifles today increasingly means producing new parts rather than relying entirely on components manufactured decades ago.

That’s a big part of why projects like this matter to us.

We don’t want the M14 to become a platform that can only be maintained as long as old parts remain available. Fulton Armory has spent decades building rifles, manufacturing components and supporting the M14/M1A platform, and the billet receiver is another step in keeping that support going.

We’ve spent several years getting this project to this point, and we’re looking forward to getting the first production receivers into our rifles and barreled actions.
