Description
Convert your M1 Garand to one of the most respected military cartridges ever developed. Chambered in 6.5×55 Swedish, this barrel combines excellent long-range performance with mild recoil, making it an outstanding choice for target shooting, competition, and recreational use. The cartridge’s moderate operating pressures also contribute to extended barrel service life compared to many modern high-performance rounds.
The 6.5×55 Swedish Mauser has earned its reputation through more than a century of proven accuracy and efficient ballistic performance. Known for its ability to launch high-ballistic-coefficient projectiles at moderate pressures, the cartridge remains capable of maintaining supersonic flight well beyond 1,000 yards while remaining comfortable to shoot.
Interestingly, John C. Garand’s original rifle design was developed around the .276 Pedersen cartridge before the U.S. military ultimately adopted .30-06 Springfield. The .276 Pedersen fired a lighter projectile at velocities remarkably similar to those achievable with modern 6.5×55 loads, making this conversion an appealing way to experience performance characteristics closer to Garand’s original vision.
Whether your priorities are precision, reduced recoil, long-range capability, or maximizing barrel longevity, the 6.5×55 Swedish delivers an impressive balance of all four.
Features
- U.S. G.I.-profile contour
- Manganese phosphate finish
- Properly timed receiver threads
- Precision hand-lapped bore and rifling for a smooth internal finish, easier maintenance, and enhanced accuracy potential
Important Information
- Chamber dimensions are designed for brass utilizing a 0.473″ case head, including common Remington and Winchester cases.
- Gas port sizing is optimized for reliable operation with appropriate ammunition. When using slower-burning powders, a Fulton Armory adjustable gas plug is recommended (see below).
- Modifying or enlarging the gas port may result in operating rod damage.
- Barrels are headspaced toward the minimum end of specification and may require finish reaming to achieve proper fit with your specific receiver and bolt combination.
